Great to see a day in the year recognising the importance of reading and celebrating the power of books! especially for our young people, who are often left to just swiping at pointless, ‘fake’ pictures, closing their minds and imaginations….. Reading has to be one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children and ourselves. Someone once said “it gives you someplace to go, when you have to stay where you are” – Reading gives you knowledge and freedom that no one can take it away from you…
And reading is great for our minds too:
“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” “A library is a hospital for the mind”
Reading reduces Stress and Anxiety – Increasing Relaxation: ” Research shows that reading as little as 6 minutes a day can reduce stress levels by 60% by reducing your heart rate, easing muscle tension and altering your state of mind. ”
“Reading exercises the mind, applying focus and concentration. It helps to prevent memory loss, it enhances our language and grammar skills. It sets a calm mood and clears the mind off toxic thoughts. Reading helps improve sleep and can also help individuals become more empathetic and increase their self-awareness.”
With all of these benefits, there is no doubt that reading ticks a lot of boxes to improving your overall wellbeing!
” The person who won’t read has no advantage over the person who can’t read” – Mark Twain
When you’re done reading this blog, why not shut down your computer and pick up a good book!
